About College

Shri Krishna Ramruchi College, Barbigha, was established in 1955 as a memorial to the great freedom fighter and architect of the new Bihar in independent India, Bihar Kesari Dr Shri Krishna Singh. The college was founded by the renowned freedom fighter and enthusiast educationist Shri Krishna Mohan Pyare Singh, also known as 'Lala Babu', and was named after Dr. Shri Krishna Singh and his wife, Shrimati Ramruchi Devi. The college was inaugurated at a ceremony held at the local high school in Barbigha, presided over by the renowned literary figure Dr. Hazari Prasad Dwivedi. Nine out of the eleven ministers of the then Bihar cabinet attended the inauguration ceremony.

Since its inception, this college has been among the leading colleges of the university due to its academic and administrative excellence.The college received affiliation for Intermediate Arts courses from Bihar University for the academic session 1955-56. The affiliation for Intermediate Science was granted from the 1966-67 academic session.The Commerce faculty received its affiliation in 1980. The college received affiliation for the Bachelor of Arts in 1957 and for the Bachelor of Science in 1969.

The college was registered under sections 2f and 12b by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Postgraduate studies in five subjects, namely Physics, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, and Philosophy, commenced at the college on June 1, 1986. In later years, postgraduate studies were discontinued.However, permission was granted again in 2022 for postgraduate programs in History, Economics, Political Science, and Commerce, and in 2025 for Zoology.

On April 2, 1975, the college became a constituent unit of Bhagalpur University, while on March 18, 2018, it became a part of Munger University.  An IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) study centre was also opened at the college on January 2, 2016. Currently, the college also offers a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) program under its vocational education curriculum. The college has a well-stocked library and a well-equipped computer lab.
